Swell Visual Fish Feeder is an App-controlled Feeder and Aquarium Video Camera In One

I saw an interesting new product at an online retailer recently – and I feel qualified to comment on it as I’m the one who made the video for them. The product is called the Visual Automatic Fish Feeder and it’s being sold by Swell UK. As the name suggests, it’s an automatic fish feeder, but it also features app control and programming, a built-in HD camera providing CCTV of your tank, and even a night vision camera, what’s more, you can view your tank and program the feeder from anywhere in the world.

An evolution of automatic fish feeders

A good auto feeder needs to be able to feed a variety of dry foods, in measured amounts set by you, a number of times per day, also set by you, and the Swell Visual Automatic Fishfeeder does exactly that. You can choose which days of the week it feeds too. But unlike just about every other feeder before it, you can actually watch the food going into the tank and the fish eating it by way of the camera that attaches to your tank glass. And you can watch it happening live, while you’re away.

The camera is on 24/7 and can be accessed remotely on the app 24 hours per day too. Even when the lights are out. So it’s a fully functioning still camera, video camera and night vision camera, and you can even upload shots and video to your socials too.

When using it I tried it out on two different tropical freshwater aquariums, but the real value may be in monitoring high-value setups like reef tanks, where you can keep an eye on your fish and corals, check they are all healthy and do what they should be doing, and even that the wave pumps and lights are working as they should be.

This automatic fish feeder could be an actual lifesaver in more ways than one. I’ve never seen an auto feeder, video camera and app control in combination before, and now that I know that it’s possible, it’s probably the way forward for all auto fish feeders in the future – pond ones too.

And the best bit? The price, at £89.99.

  • Grabbed one of these online back in June 2024. It was indeed easy to setup and still runs well. The feeder has a simple agitator in the bottom to help prevent clogs. This is my backup feeder in the event the one on a timer only fails or if I am out and things look hungry. One item of note is that the app asks to allow „paste“ and „copy“ between mobile device and the server hosting Videos. Given that this is a server in China, it may be a bit of a security consideration if other content is being extracted from screenshots, etc. on our mobile devices.
