OR4 iCon 30 is Orphek’s shortest LED light bar

Orphek has launched its shortest-length LED light bar to date, the OR4 iCon 30. At 30cm in length, or roughly 12”, The OR4 iCon 30 enjoys all the upgrades of the OR4 but in a one-foot format that will suit as the only light for a nano reef tank, supplemental light for modular LEDs, freshwater planted tanks or refugiums, and it comes in six different spectrums to ensure that there is one little OR4 for all.   

Every iCon 30 is populated with nine 6-watt dual-chip LEDs with new reflectors and a new power supply. Unlike the popular OR3 bars, these are programmable and dimmable via the Orphek app, they have sun and moon sync for those who want to try coral spawning, and they have a waterproofing rating of IP67, meaning they are resistant to dust and water ingress for up to 30 minutes at one metre’s depth.

Far more marine lights should be IP67-rated instead of clogging up and rusting in what is an unavoidably salty situation.

Reefers will be interested in five of the six available spectrums – 380-500nm Blue Plus, 440-500nm Sky Blue, 390-680nm Reef Day Plus, 360-440 UK/Violet, and 520-740nm Red Plus Grow and Refugium. As to which is best in isolation for coral growth and colour, or in combination, refer to an existing OR4 user online who is already using the larger sizes. 

What I think

I’ve used (and sold) the Orphek OR3 bars quite extensively, but they did lack dimming and control and when AI launched the Blade, it was clear that Orphek needed to up its LED light bar game. On the face of it, the OR4 range has done exactly that with new and re-engineered everything to keep both existing and prospective Orphek users happy. Being a lighting junkie, I definitely want to try out a couple on my own nano reef tanks. 

Price

Orphek only launched these on the 23rd of December 2024, with an introductory price (in America,) of $135, or £107. By the time they have been shipped to the UK via a distributor, they will cost quite a bit more.
