TMC launch First Wave Nano Reef Aquarium

Tropical Marine Centre has launched a new Nano Tank called First Wave. Measuring 58.5 x 29.5 x 32.5cm, the peninsula-style aquarium holds 48 litres gross volume and is aimed at first-time fishkeepers, with low voltage, low wattage equipment, a lid with built-in programmable LED light, and a practical filter section. It’s priced at £199.99.

What we like

At just shy of two feet in length the First Wave will suit a pair of tank-bred Clownfish, and with a lid, they won’t jump out either. The 13-watt, 34-diode, 14000 Kelvin LED light should support undemanding corals, and there’s room in there for other nano fish and mobile inverts too. There’s a 500lph 5.4-watt DC return pump and an 8.4-watt DC protein skimmer, and all three use just one three-way wire adaptor and use only one plug at the wall. The four-stage filtration can be used as intended or adapted to suit the user, and there’s room for a vertically mounted heater (not included,).

The lid should also minimise evaporation and heat loss, and it would make a great quarantine tank for most smaller fish, a good kid’s reef tank, or a project tank and the chance to keep something you couldn’t keep in your main reef tank.

TMC are championing tiny DC pumps with little power usage, they’ve managed to shave even more cost off owning a TMC nano tank, and they have the full range of nano wave pumps, nano ATOs, rockwork, and livestock, to complete the package.
