DeJong Marinelife successfully breeds the Marble-Mouthed Frogfish
DeJong Marinelife chalked up another breeding success this week with the announcement that they have successfully bred the Marble-Mouthed Frogfish, Lophiocharon lithinostomus.
“Exciting News from Our Hatchery! We have successfully bred the stunning Lophiocharon lithinostomus, commonly known as the marble-mouthed frogfish! These remarkable creatures, with their unique marble-like patterns and captivating personalities, are a testament to the beauty of biodiversity. Our dedicated team has worked hard to make this a success.”
“We sourced the broodstock, created the perfect environment to encourage spawning, and patiently waited for almost 4 weeks before the eggs hatched and raised the fry.”
“These frogfish will soon be available, making them a truly sustainable choice and ideal candidates for public aquaria or a specially dedicated biotope tank.”

Lophiocharon lithinostomus comes from the Western Central Pacific, Indonesia, and the Philippines and grows to a length of just 9cm. They have been bred successfully in captivity before, unusually, holding the cluster of large eggs on their flank between their fins. But this adds to the dozens of spawning successes from the DeJong hatchery, where they are releasing more breeding successes almost weekly.
