Reefkeeping News Launches December 2024
Welcome to my new website, Reefkeeping News.
RKN is an offshoot of a project I started five years ago – Fishkeeping News – which as the name suggests is a website with relevant news on all things fish, aquariums, and ponds. It’s also the name of my company, and after five years of being booked out working for other people, it’s about time I got back to my own digital projects and my indelible love of fish.
My name is Jeremy Gay, and I’m an author, editor, ex-aquatic store manager, and an aquarist of some forty years. I published my first article in Practical Fishkeeping Magazine in 2002, went on to become its Editor, and have been a regular contributor for 23 years. I published my first book over twenty years ago and made my first podcast 14 years ago. For the past two years, I’ve been Senior Editor at Reef Builders in the US but the British aquatic trade is my home and with luck, I’ll be part of it for a long time to come.
A website for fresh and saltwater
The fishkeeping hobby is becoming increasingly diverse, due to many niches offered by the internet, so it is logical for me and future readers to split Fishkeeping News into freshwater-only while creating Reefkeeping News for salt. And a lot has happened since my book and magazine days so as you’d expect, both brands will be multi-channel, multi-platform and will encompass video, podcasts, and of course social media, so please like, follow, and subscribe!
News
There is no better news than fishkeeping news, and as a trained journalist I aim to provide well-written, curated, unbiased news on the types of fish, invertebrates, and equipment that people want to know about. I wrote my first marine product review in 2002 (of a Deltec MCE 600!) and I’ll continue to appraise equipment so readers can make an informed buying choice.
Articles
I also want RKN to be a place to learn and digest information on the hobby we love. I still learn every day, so if you have a burning desire to contribute then please get in touch. I’ve made some great friends in the hobby so let’s do reefing together, online, on podcasts, and at live events.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Jeremy.
