Funktion Wave Pumps combine Looks, Performance and Value
D-D The Aquarium Solution’s own range of DC wave makers are arriving soon in the UK.
Part of the Funktion water movement family, Funktion Wave comprise four models capable of turning over between 3000 and 13000lph with a modern, compact form factor, and four flow modes delivered by a back-lit coloured LCD inline controller.

Four different flow modes
Pump mode delivers a constant flow rate, wave mode has an adjustable frequency, pulse mode adjustable interval time and storm mode has variable frequency. All modes also have adjustable flow rates from 30-100%, for a maximum power draw of 7.5 – 30 watts, depending on the model.
The low-voltage 4-pole motors are low heat with wear-resistant ceramic shafts, magnet mounts, and angle adjustment, as well as a rear anemone guard, feed mode and run dry detection, shutting the pump down when out of the water.
Consumers demand increasingly quieter and more compact, yet powerful pumps, and Funktion Wave pumps deliver on that. The lime green impellers are distinctive of D-D’s own product line, while the company continues to offer Aqua Illumination’s Nero wave pumps for those who crave app control.

Price
The icing on the cake with these pumps is the price, which ranges from £84.99 for the FPW3000 to £129.99 for the biggest FPW13000.
What I think
These new DC wave pumps are small, powerful and good-looking, with a killer price. I’m not as drawn to the LCD wired controller as I am to the form factor of the pumps themselves, and the only things I would crave even more are app control, or even a simple link-up cable to enable two pumps to run in anti-sync mode.
I predict they will take a large chunk of the wave pump market share in the UK, attracting everyone from complete beginners to intermediates and experienced reefers alike.
