Red Sea Ramp Up Monitoring with ReefControl
Red Sea continues its technological advances with the release of the new ReefControl Family. ReefControl comprises 7 interchangeable, digital ReefSense Probes & Sensors, along with a smart ReefControl Power centre, which connects to the existing Red Sea ReefBeat app, offering real-time reef tank monitoring 24/7, and on/off control of devices when you’re not there.
ReefSense Probes and Sensors
The ReefSense range will commence with six separate probes and sensors:
- Temperature,
- Integrated pH and Temperature,
- Integrated Salinity & Temperature,
- Integrated ATO & Temperature,
- ORP,
- Leak detection
Existing Red Sea equipment users may already have access to temperature, leak detection and level control via the ReefATO+. But now they (and non-red sea equipment users) will have access to separate pH, salinity and ORP monitoring as well as remote power socket control, adding new levels of monitoring and control to the market-leading brand.
There will then be three different ReefControl packages – Reef Control Lite, ReefControl Pro, and Reef Control Pro Deluxe, all offering different levels of monitoring and price points from entry-level to all the bells and whistles Red Sea currently has to offer.

ReefControl Lite
ReefControl Lite comes with an integrated pH and Temperature Probe and a controller that can operate 2 probes, plus one 12V DC add-on device.
ReefControl Pro
ReefControl Pro comes with an integrated pH and Temperature Probe and a controller that can operate 4 probes, or 7 with the help of the ReefSense 4-Port Expander, plus two 12V DC add-on devices, which could control a cooling fan, for example.
ReefControl Pro Deluxe
ReefControl Pro Deluxe comes with the ReefControl Pro controller, along with an integrated pH and Temperature Probe, an integrated Salinity and Temperature Probe, an ORP Probe and a leak detector.
Users will be able to see any fluctuations in temperature, salinity, pH or ORP in graphic form and over time via logs on the ReefBeat app, enabling informed decision-making and hopefully greater stability of parameters, which is the ultimate aim for any successful reef tank.
They can also set and receive notifications.

The probes
Owners of existing monitoring equipment may already be familiar with the concept of monitoring temperature, pH, salinity and ORP, although they’ll also note that the probes have different connections and may be limited in their accuracy, depending on make, model and parameter.
Red Sea are breaking new ground in aquarium monitoring by using all digital probes, all with the same connectors and ports for universal connection throughout the ReefControl range, as well as (we hope) even greater accuracy. If I had better (truer) readings of pH and Salinity, I would be very happy, and would be more than happy to pay for it.
ReefControl Power
ReefControl Power is a smart, independent power centre that lets the hobbyist switch their devices ON/OFF from their mobile – including NON-Red Sea devices – monitor their power use, and integrate non-Red Sea devices into ReefBeat’s schedules and safety routines, i.e, automatically shutting off a heater if the ReefSense Temperature Probe detects that the water is getting too warm.
The Deluxe version includes a local controller with ON/OFF pushbuttons for each socket, ensuring easy access even with wet hands.
Note that the UK and EU versions will come with six sockets, not eight, as shown in the US.
ReefControl power can be purchased and run independently of the three above ReefControl packages, although many users will opt for one ReefControl package as well as ReefControl Power for monitoring and remote control of devices. And knowing just how many devices some reefers run on their tanks, they may even run two Reef Control Power bars.

What I think
Working in a marine store, I know the value of monitoring and control for the coral trays I work with daily, for my reef tanks, and our customers’ tanks. I’m also aware that price can be a barrier to entry. The ReefBeat app is probably the easiest to use Reef aquarium ecosystem app, and these are very welcome additions to the Red Sea range, for Red Sea’s existing user fanbase, and for non-Red Sea users alike. It will also get reef monitoring into so many more stores worldwide.
My Recommendations
If you have the budget, go straight for the ReefControl Pro Deluxe because it includes salinity, and everything water chemistry-related stems directly back to having the correct salinity in the first place. I would also add at least one ReefControl Power bar, enabling remote switching of heaters as well as real-time power consumption and scheduling of all key reef tank devices. Extra probes do inevitably mean more cables, so your cabinet cable management will need to be on point, and if you’re going all-in, opt for Red Sea’s Slide Out Control Panel and the Wire basket for supplement bottles to boot.
