Maxspect Jump MJ-L LED lights offer Better Price and Performance than before
Maxspect has revamped its Jump L165 LED light with the MJ-L 260 and 290 launch. The outer casing looks similar to before, but whereas with the old model you had a choice of normal and a blue spectrum that were equal in output, this time both new models are Blue spectrum, but there is a choice of output and power consumption, and also a price difference.
The old MJ-L165 had an output of 65 watts, 40 diodes, and cost around £240. The new MJ-L 260 has an output of 66 watts and 36 diodes, but it costs only £169.99—considerably cheaper than before.
The new MJ-L 290 is 96 watts, populated with 48 LEDs, draws a maximum of 96 watts, and is being sold at £229.99 – still less than the old one. What’s more, these lights both come with adjustable tank mounting brackets, something that will cost a minimum of £50 on top from some rivals.
Maxspect say the hardware has been overhauled with a new active cooling system (fan) and the software offers various benefits including being cloud enabled on the Syna-G app, multi phase adjustable colour temperature, lunar cycle, acclimation mode, profile sharing, device grouping, and all the usual light adjustment and programming you would expect from a modern LED reef light. Maxspect also says that the unit can still operate between 95 and 100% of total performance when running other colour spectrums, versus a big drop off if you ran the light a lot more white, for example.
