Coral Freaks 2024 Sets the Standard for Reefkeeping Chat Shows
Paul Hughes’s Coral Freaks Show took an evolutionary leap this autumn as it presented an entirely new format of reefing show – a chat show. Hosted by yours truly, I got to quiz some of the most famous and well-respected reefers in the global reefing industry including Tony Vargas, Jamie Craggs, Patrick Foster, Trina Parsons, and Than Thein of Tidal Gardens. All in front of an audience of 150 people in Harlow Essex.
The original Coral Freaks show was Paul’s first stab at creating a British version of an American Reefing Show like Reefapalooza. Albeit a lot smaller. But then Covid came along and its next iteration was taken on by Paul Longhurst and Love2Reef, who introduced us all to the Mental Health Charity Mind.
With Love2Reef becoming its own successful reefing show, Paul Hughes had the idea of creating a reefing chatshow along the lines of the Johnathon Ross Show. We were both terrified, but down to Paul’s friends, contacts, and planning, the event all came together with guests, sponsors, an audience, a raffle, and a charitable donation. The event was hailed a huge success by all who visited, watched and supported behind the scenes.
The event was videoed by our new friend Stefan aka The Yorkshire Reefer. If you have some spare time then sit back, watch, and learn from the experts at Coral Freaks, “A Reefing Audience With…” and shop at Paul’s store, Advanced Aquarium Consultancy.
