Nyos Quantum EQ Protein Skimmer is Mobius and MXM controllable

Nyos showed off a working model of a new protein skimmer called Nyos EQ this weekend. At Reef-A-Palooza Orlando, visitors got to see the upgraded Quantum skimmer with patented colour-coded LED lights built into the skimmer body itself, indicating its running status both visually and via an app. 

We first saw an LED-lit Quantum skimmer many years ago at Interzoo in Germany, so many years ago in fact that the prototypes were running opposite the soon-to-launch Radion Gen 4. Now in April 2025, new invigorated Nyos are finally bringing the product to market, and with some software help from their friends at Aperture Pet & Life.

Running status LEDs

The new Quantum can run either with internal or external skimmer pump, and the LED lights indicate its running status. A green light is good running, yellow is weaker, and blinking red light indicates that the pump is blocked and needs attention. Hit boost on the app, and the skimmer glows blue. 

At the app end, pump performance can be increased or decreased by way of a simple slider, Bluetooth Mobius connection will be super quick and easy, along with MXM connectivity for ultimate control freaks who like total equipment management and control when they’re away. 

We’re not sure of pricing or when the EQ will be available in the UK, but it’s sure to turn the heads of any EcoTech or Neptune Systems owners who wish to integrate a protein skimmer into their favourite control platforms.
